ENDURASTRAN® RUG CARE & CLEANING FAQ
GOOD ROOMS GET USED
Spills happen. Snacks escape. Pets make unfortunate decisions. Thankfully, keeping your rug looking its best usually requires little more than regular vacuuming and prompt attention when something lands where it shouldn’t.
Care requirements vary by material and manufacturer. Always review the individual product page and attached care label before cleaning your rug. The instructions below apply specifically to rugs identified as EnduraStran® products.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I VACUUM?
Regularly is the official answer, and for a room that gets real use, once a week is a reasonable rhythm. High-traffic lanes, the path from the stairs to the couch, the strip around the pool table, benefit from more frequent passes.
Vacuuming isn't just about looks. Dirt that sits in the pile acts like sandpaper at the base of the fibers, which is what actually wears a rug out. Getting it out early is the single most effective thing you can do for the rug's lifespan. Regular vacuuming is also required to keep your warranty coverage in full effect.
WHAT DO I DO WHEN SOMETHING SPILLS?
Get to it quickly. Most of what makes a stain permanent is time.
Blot, don't rub. Rubbing pushes the spill deeper into the pile and can distort the fibers. Use a clean white cloth or paper towel and press straight down, working from the outside of the spill toward the center so you don't spread it.
If blotting alone doesn't do it, use water and a mild detergent. Apply it to the cloth rather than pouring it on the rug, blot again, then rinse by blotting with plain water and let the area dry completely.
IS THERE A CLEANER YOU RECOMMEND?
EnduraStran recommends Capture cleaning products. It's a dry-extraction system, so you're not soaking the rug to get it clean.
WILL CLEANING IT MYSELF VOID MY WARRANTY?
Not if you follow the recommended maintenance. Vacuuming, blotting spills, and using water with a mild detergent are all part of the expected routine. What causes trouble is improper cleaning: harsh chemicals, bleach, or methods the manufacturer doesn't recommend.
CAN I STEAM CLEAN THIS RUG?
Yes. EnduraStran rugs handle hot water extraction, which is what most people mean by steam cleaning. Whether you rent a machine or hire a professional, the rug can take it. Let it dry completely afterward before you put furniture back on it.
WHAT ABOUT PET ACCIDENTS?
EnduraStran's stain resistance specifically covers pet urine along with food and beverages, so you have some room for error here. Same approach as any spill: blot up as much as possible, clean with water and mild detergent, rinse by blotting, and let it dry fully. Acting fast matters more with pet accidents than almost anything else.
WHAT SHOULD I NEVER USE?
Bleach, harsh chemicals and any cleaning method not recommended for your rug. Improper cleaning can affect warranty eligibility, and some household cleaners will strip the stain resistance that's engineered into the fiber.
Also keep bleach and hard-surface floor cleaners away from the rug's edges when you're cleaning nearby floors.
MY RUG ARRIVED WITH CREASES. NOW WHAT?
Give it a day or two. Loc-Bak backing is designed to relax and flatten once the rug has acclimated to the room, and it stays that way after that. Roll marks from shipping typically work themselves out with normal vacuuming.
I SEE A FEW LOOSE THREADS ALONG THE EDGE. IS THAT NORMAL?
Yes. Cutting a rug from broadloom leaves the occasional stray nylon filament near the edge, especially right after it's serged. It's a normal part of how a made-to-order rug gets made, not a defect.
Trim them flush with sharp scissors. Don't pull them, since that can loosen the surrounding tufting.
If the edge itself looks wrong, uneven serging, a gap, or anything that seems structural, send us a photo. Edge finish is covered under warranty for the first year.
DO I NEED A RUG PAD?
Yes, EnduraStran recommends one to help prevent slipping. Make sure you get the right type, since pads for hard-surface floors and pads for carpeted areas aren't the same thing.
MY FURNITURE LEFT DENTS IN THE PILE
Nylon is resilient, which means it tends to spring back. Move the furniture, work the area gently with your fingers or the edge of a spoon, and vacuum across the spot. Rotating your furniture arrangement occasionally helps prevent permanent pivot points.
CAN I PUT THIS RUG IN A GARAGE, PORCH OR UNFINISHED BASEMENT?
These are interior rugs meant for climate-controlled spaces. Outdoor exposure and excess moisture aren't covered by the warranty, and a damp basement can cause problems no rug wants.
TARKETT® RUG CARE & CLEANING FAQ
KEEP THE GOOD TIMES ROLLING
Rec rooms take a beating. The good news is that a Lextron™ solution-dyed nylon rug is built for hotel lobbies, which means your basement is an easy assignment. Regular vacuuming plus quick action on spills covers almost everything.
Care requirements vary by material and manufacturer. Always review the individual product page and attached care label before cleaning your rug. The instructions below apply specifically to rugs identified as Tarkett® products.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I VACUUM?
Tarkett's commercial schedule calls for daily vacuuming, which makes sense for a hotel corridor. At home, once a week is a solid baseline, with extra passes on the lanes that see the most foot traffic.
There's a real reason behind it. Frequent vacuuming is the most effective way to remove dry soil particles and sand, which damage carpet fibers. Grit at the base of the pile acts like sandpaper every time someone walks across it. Vacuuming is also required to keep your warranty coverage in full effect.
SHOULD I GET IT PROFESSIONALLY CLEANED?
Yes, periodically. Tarkett's schedule recommends interim cleaning every one to two months and deep cleaning every three to six months, depending on how heavy the traffic is. Those intervals are built for hospitality spaces. For a home rec room, an annual deep clean is a reasonable adaptation, more often if your room gets constant use.
WHAT DO I DO ABOUT A SPILL?
Move fast. Blot with a clean white absorbent cloth or paper towel, working from the outside of the spill toward the center so you don't spread it. Blot rather than rub, or use an extractor to flush the spill out. For larger spills, a portable extraction unit or wet/dry vac does the job best. Then help it dry quickly.
For dried or crusted messes, break up the material gently with a soft hand brush or spatula first, then vacuum up the loose particles.
WHAT CLEANERS ARE SAFE?
Tarkett lists several options: a commercially available carpet cleaning or spot-removal detergent, a vinegar solution using white vinegar, clear rubbing or denatured alcohol used as is, a non-flammable dry cleaning fluid used per its directions, or an ammonia solution made from one tablespoon of non-bleaching household ammonia in one cup of warm water.Never mix ammonia with chlorine bleach, and follow all manufacturer warnings about mixing ammonia with other chemicals.
ANY TECHNIQUE TIPS?
A few that make a real difference. Always pretest your cleaner in an inconspicuous spot first. Use a drip-spout bottle instead of pouring cleaner directly onto the rug. Stick with clean white absorbent towels, since colored ones can transfer dye. And expedite drying once you're done.
THE STAIN CAME BACK. WHAT HAPPENED?
That's wicking, and it's normal after a concentrated spill. Liquid that soaked deep into the rug travels back up as the area dries. Just reclean the spot using the same method you used the first time.
CAN I STEAM CLEAN IT?
Yes. Extraction is one of Tarkett's own recommended approaches for spills, and hot water extraction is standard for deep cleaning commercial nylon. Don't oversaturate the rug, and let it dry fully before furniture goes back on it. Damage from excessive moisture isn't covered under warranty, so the goal is clean and dry, not soaked.
WHAT SHOULD I NEVER DO?
Skip the bleach, and be careful with it nearby too. Damage from bleach or chemicals used to clean adjacent hard-surface flooring is specifically excluded from warranty coverage, so mop around the rug with care.
Also avoid letting the rug get and stay wet, and keep it out of unconditioned spaces like garages or three-season porches.
MY RUG ARRIVED CREASED OR CURLED AT THE EDGES
Both are normal after shipping. Roll marks typically disappear with routine vacuuming. For edge curl, carefully roll the rug in the opposite direction to relax it.
DO I NEED A RUG PAD?
If your rug came with the attached non-skid pad, no. It's extruded right onto the backing, won't wrinkle, protects the subfloor, and even helps the rug dry underneath if it gets wet. If your rug doesn't have the attached pad, use a separate one, and choose the right type for your floor. Floor damage from skipping the pad isn't covered.
I HAVE A ROLLING CHAIR ON MY RUG
Common setup for poker tables, and dense nylon handles it better than most rugs would. Two things help:
Swap casters for glides if your chairs allow it. Many game and poker chairs take either, and glides distribute weight instead of concentrating it in a rolling point. It's the single best fix.
If you're staying with casters, go wide and soft. Broad-tread, large-diameter wheels spread the load. Narrow, hard casters are what actually damage a pile.
Worth knowing: damage from chair casters isn't covered under the manufacturer's warranty, and chair pads are required for full coverage. That's standard language across the carpet industry, and it's about warranty claims rather than whether the rug will hold up. Move your chairs around occasionally so the same spots don't take every pivot.
MY FURNITURE LEFT DENTS
Nylon springs back. Move the furniture, work the pile gently with your fingers, and vacuum across the spot. Rotating your layout now and then keeps pivot points from becoming permanent. Worth knowing: matting and crushing in traffic paths and at pivot points isn't covered by warranty, which is another argument for staying on top of the vacuuming.
THERE ARE A FEW LOOSE THREADS ALONG THE EDGE
Normal for a rug cut to order from broadloom. Trim them flush with sharp scissors rather than pulling them, since pulling can loosen nearby tufting.
If the edge itself looks wrong, uneven serging, a gap, anything structural, send us a photo. Edge finish is covered under warranty for the first year.
